I first learned how to knit by reading an encyclopedia of stitchery. I carefully read the instructions and followed drawn diagrams. It was tedious but I always sorted stitches out by trial and error. If the internet had existed back then, I would have progressed so much faster. I am amazed by the number of people who take the time to post their step-by-step pictures. Even better are short videos posted on You Tube.
