Claremont Crafty Knitters Club

Are you brand new to knitting?  Or do you already know how to knit and want to work on more complex projects?  Either way, you have come to the right place!  Join Crafty Knitters at lunch on Mondays in Room 323.  Bring your lunch and your knitting.  You'll be making cozy fashion accessories and clothing in no time!

TIPS:
  • If you purchase your own needles, check out dollar stores.  They often have craft sections that are stocked with knitting needles and other supplies.
  • Ask you parents or relatives if they have any knitting supplies.  My friend Laurie casually mentioned to her mom that she was interested in knitting.  It turned out that Laurie's grandmother was an avid knitter and all her supplies were in Laurie's parents' basement.  Long story short, Laurie now has an amazing set of needles and notions.
  • Start clipping Michaels' coupons or download the Michaels' app onto your smart phone.  Michaels often has a 40% off coupon that can be used on regular priced items.  Their knitting section is extensive.

BEGINNER'S SAMPLERS:
Once you learn how to knit and purl, you will be well on your way to making a cozy cowl or scarf in your favourite colour.  Before you even think about attempting your first project, you must learn the basic stitches of knitting.

You will create samplers of the following stitches:
  • Garter Stitch (knitwise)
  • Garter Stitch (purlwise)
  • Stockinette Stitch (knit one row, purl one row)
  • Rib Stitch (knit 2, purl 2 repeat)
PROJECTS FOR BEGINNERS:
  • Washcloth
  • Traditional Scarf
  • Cowl/Infinity Scarf
